This Beauty Just Got In! The New Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Only at Napleton's Volkswgen of Orlando

Volkswagen announced the latest addition to their family of Crossovers and Sport Utility Vehicles with the introduction of the new Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport. Although a release date and pricing have not been determined as of now, it will be available in 2022 at Napleton Volkswagen of Orlando.

Think of the new Atlas Cross Sport as the sexy new addition alongside Volkswagen's original Atlas. But to be honest, this vehicle's sleek design only adds to the overall package. It is designed to compete with vehicles like the Ford Edge, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Passport.

"The Atlas provides even more style and almost as much interior space," said Scott Keogh, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America. Even though it is slightly smaller, that doesn't mean anything was left out.

By the numbers, the Cross Sport is 2.8 inches shorter than the current Atlas, and a sporty 2.3 inches lower for ground-hugging stability. It is the same width as its Atlas sibling and rides on its 117.3-inch wheelbase.

Looking at the exterior of the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport finds a new upscale three-bar chrome grille. The middle light bar includes an illuminated strake reminiscent of a grille found on certain Mercedes-Benz SUVs. A new bumper and sculpted hood help achieve the look seen on the concept vehicle at last year's New York Auto Show.

From the side, the Atlas Cross Sport features a racy profile with steeply raked rear pillars. The result is a coupe-like greenhouse that is aero-compliant and modern at the same time. A new sculpted rear bumper lends presence and chrome accents help present a custom look to the overall vibe of the Cross Sport. VW will offer an R-Line trim level with piano black and chrome treatment around the intakes. Available 21-inch aluminum-alloy wheels help to finish the look.

A sport-oriented interior includes more intuitive controls, stitched accents, and new high-tech features, including Qi wireless smartphone charging. There are also available ventilated and heated front seats, rear sunshades and a stellar Fender Premium Audio System with 12 speakers. An available panoramic moonroof is on tap for those who need to feel like they are in the great wide open.

There's also plenty of cargo hauling space inside the Atlas Cross Sport. Space behind the second-row seating lines up at 40.3-cubic feet. Fold that seat forward and the cargo space grows to an accommodating 77.8-cubic foot.

Volkswagen Car-Net is the brand's OnStar-like suite of apps. It's included here, and allows everything from remote access, remote door lock and unlock, remote honk and flashing of lights, last-place parked and more.

An added feature of the Car-Net suite is the Car-Net Hotspot that allows internet access for up to four connected devices, including tablets, smartphones and laptops at 4G LTE speeds.

The Atlas Cross Sport is available with a suite of advanced driver-assistance features. They include Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous braking, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Traffic Alert. Buyers can select Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist and Dynamic Sign Display to show local speed limits, no-passing zones and school zone.

MOTIVATION

Power for the Cross Sport will come from two sources. Buyers can select a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder that makes 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Option two is the 276 horsepower 3.6-liter V6 that produces 266 lb-ft of torque. Front-wheel-drive (FWD) is standard, but Volkswagen's 4Motion all-wheel-drive (AWD) is available with both engines for added traction and confidence.

EPA Estimates for the Atlas Cross Sport with 2.0-liter turbo and FWD are 21 City / 24 Highway / 22 Combined, while the 4Motion AWD version drops those ratings to 18 City / 23 Highway / 20 Combined. The V6 engine has not been rated at this time.

The Atlas Cross Sport is the latest Volkswagen to speak with a Southern Twang. Built alongside the standard VW Atlas and the Passat at the Volkswagen Group's Chattanooga Assembly Plant deep in the heart of Tennessee, it will be available soon at Napleton Volkswagen of Orlando.
